The department of GDP provides high quality oral health care to patients in addition to clinical and didactic mentorship to students. Services provided includes diagnosis, treatment and prevention of wide range of oral conditions. Members of the department have received intense and advanced training which qualifies them to carry out majority of dental treatments. The role of the GDP department starts with admitting patients to Kuwait University Dental Clinic and assigning them to students besides supervising/mentoring most of the students’ clinical training. In addition, the GDP department covers the adult emergency clinic.


The faculty members are responsible for teaching the fundamentals of restorative dentistry and treatment planning, with input from the other disciplines, organizing and supervising the comprehensive care curriculum. The philosophy underpinning the teaching of General Dental Practice at the College of Dentistry is known as “Comprehensive Dental Care” where students are trained thoroughly to deliver high quality patient-centered care that is based on individual needs. The three pillars of this approach are accurate diagnosis, prioritized care and effective prevention, along with coaching patients toward achieving an optimum state of health and maintaining good oral function and appearance.
