The College of Dentistry, represented by the Community Service Unit and the Public Relations Department, organized an awareness campaign under the slogan "Start with a Sugar Free Day" at the Kuwait University Dental Clinics in Jabriya where the Acting Dean of the College Dr. Rashid Al-Azemi, Acting Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs, Consulting and Training Dr. Jaber Akbar, Head of the Community Service Unit Dr. Abrar Al-Anzi, Acting Administrative Manager Rania Al-Kulaib were present.
The Acting Dean of the College of Dentistry, Dr. Rashid Al-Azemi, said that this event aims to educate and raise awareness of the public in general and the diabetic patients of the college clinics in particular, explaining that controlling this disease is not difficult or impossible by following a balanced lifestyle and choosing healthy alternatives whether for adults or children and in the event that the patient is able to control it, he/she will become like any normal person and be able to treat his/her teeth similar to any other individuals.
For her part, the head of the community service unit Dr. Abrar Al-Anzi stated that the harms of sugar are many, as they include a high risk of obesity, eating disorders, hyperglycemia and fat accumulation in different areas of the body.
Assistant Professor and Specialist in Comprehensive Dentistry, Dr. Alyaa Sarkhouh, indicated that the College of Dentistry aims during this day to motivate patients to change unhealthy eating habits for the better one, explaining that sugar is the key to many diseases such as heart diseases not to mention tooth decay.
Dr. Wolfram Anderson the Executive Director of the Research Sector at the Kuwaiti-Danish Dairy Company KDD, said that this event is a golden opportunity to urge individuals to turn to healthy alternatives such as products free of added sugar, explaining that the company has taken the initiative to develop products with nutritional and positive value, which are based on a new quality of science in this field, specifically metabolic measurement.
