Mission
Educating the student regarding oral, maxillofacial and periodontal conditions and their consequences to the patient, thereby qualifying him/her to recognize, diagnose and treat patients having such conditions and treatment needs, and refer more complicated cases to qualified specialists. The ethics of a comprehensive patient care responsibility is an important part of this mission. The Department aims at professional excellence in service to patients and consulting practitioners and a high international standard in its teaching. Research and development in the areas of oral and maxillofacial surgery and periodontology are important parts of the mission.
Objectives

To make the student knowledgeable regarding normal anatomy and physiology as well as disease etiology, development and diagnosis within areas subjected to oral and maxillofacial surgery and affected by periodontal diseases.

To make the student understand the comprehensive dental treatment need, the need for advanced surgical procedures and the need for referral to specialist for treatment of surgical or periodontal problems.

To emphasize prevention of periodontal diseases as well as conditions that may lead to need for surgical interventions.

To make the student competent in all aspects of patient management, including examination, treatment planning and proficient performance of routine surgical procedures and periodontal treatments.

To make the student competent and motivated to share his expertise with colleagues and the public for the benefit of the society as a whole.
